Revellers, Scratchers dispute Foundation Cup crown
MANILA, Philippines — Che’Lu Bar and Grill and Go for Gold clash for one last time today for the PBA D-League Foundation Cup crown in a sudden death tipped to go down to the last shot at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
MVP Jeff Viernes took charge in the fourth quarter to power the top-seeded Revellers to an 88-81 victory over the Scratchers in Game Four last Tuesday to level their best-of-five series at two games apiece.
Gametime is at 5 p.m.
“This is one of my greatest achievements. But my mission is not to get the MVP award. It is to help the team win our first championship here in the D-League,” said Viernes, who bested teammate Chris Bitoon, finals opponent Go for Gold’s Gab Banal and Marinerong Pilipino’s Trevis Jackson for the highest individual honor.
Che’Lu Bar and Chill coach Stevenson Tiu backed Viernes’ desire to help the team get the crown that eluded them last conference, especially as his ward was not present when they fell to eventual champion Zark’s Burgers-Lyceum.
“He (Viernes) always says that it’s not the individual award that matters. What matters is the team, the championship,” said Tiu.
