MANILA, Philippines – Foton’s woes continue to pile up as Bea de Leon remains unsure if she will suit up in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference this September
De Leon said she remains committed to Ateneo de Manila University and will play her final year in UAAP women’s volleyball tournament next year.
She said her decision depends on the schedule of the Lady Eagles in the preseason.
“Let’s see with the arrangement first. For now, they (Foton) know that my priority is Ateneo,” said the 5-foot-11 de Leon, who reportedly signed a two-year contract with the Tornadoes.
De Leon’s possible absence will be a major blow to the Tornadoes.
Aside from head coach John Abella, who stepped down after three consecutive setbacks, Foton would also lose Jaja Santiago in the All-Filipino after reaching an agreement with the Japan V.Premier League.
Although Dindin Manabat, Maika Ortiz, Gen Casugod and CJ Rosario will be there to provide the defensive muscle, the Tornadoes are still tipped to have a bumpy ride, especially with Petron, F2 Logistics and even Cignal or Sta. Lucia marching with loaded rosters.
De Leon, however, said she would carry all the lessons she gained in the Invitationals to the All-Filipino if ever manages to see action.
“It was coach Tai (Bundit) for the past four years. It was nice to learn from other coaches as well,” she said.
“It’s a different experience. I had so much fun.”
