KUALA LUMPUR –A vintage Manny Pacquiao—at least the closest one to his old, fiery form—finally showed up.
A dominant Pacquiao knocked Lucas Matthysse down three times en route to a seventh round knockout win to become the new WBA welterweight champion at the Axiata Arena here Sunday.
Pacquiao sent the defending champion down once each in the third, fifth and seventh rounds to score the emphatic win.
The official time of the stoppage was 2:43 of the seventh, as Matthysse was counted out after eating a huge left uppercut from Pacquiao.
The Filipino icon thus ended a nine-year knockout drought.
