MANILA, Philippines — In an overwhelming acquisition of country's top university, Gilas Pilipinas cadet Kobe Paras announced that he will be suiting up as a Fighting Maroon in the UAAP.

The announcement was confirmed by University of the Philippines head coach Bo Perasol in a news program this Wednesday morning.

Paras was a top recruit back in his days as a La Salle Greenie and chose to continue his basketball development in the United States. He played for the Creighton University Bluejays then decided to be a Matador, joining California State University.

He then released a video announcement that he will skip college to play in the professional level. In his return to the country, Paras suited up for the Glias Pilipinas cadets in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Cup.

Paras will be continuing the legacy of his father, Benjie Paras, who led UP to the 1986 UAAP men's basketball championship, before becoming the first and only rookie-MVP in the history of the Philippine Basketball Association.

The younger Paras will be in action starting UAAP Season 82, due to a required one-year residency period. The son of the Fighting Maroon legend will be teaming up with fellow Gilas cadet and former La Salle Green Archer star Ricci Rivero, who was acquired by the team last May.
