MANILA, Philippines — Delivering a fiery performance in front of home supporters, the Philippine Volcanoes overpowered Singapore, 38-12, to secure the Asia Rugby Championship Division 1 crown yesterday at Southern Plains field in Laguna.

The Volcanoes held the Singaporeans scoreless for the entire second half to run away with their second victory in the two-game series and regain the title in the second-tier 15s tourney in the Continent they last held in 2012.

Picking up from where they left off in the first fixture, which they won, 32-24, the Filipinos seized an 18-12 lead after the first 40 minutes, scoring off two tries, one conversion and two penalties.

The home side kept its foot on the pedal for the remainder of the match, unloading 20 unanswered points built around a pair of converted tries and a pair of penalties to put the game – and the diadem – beyond Singapore’s reach.
