BOCAUE, Bulacan — The Filipinos were dealt with a heartbreaker by the Mongolians, 17-21, in the nightcap of Day Two of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup at the Philippine Arena here.

Gilas looked poised for another upset — this time, against an 11th-seed crew who were coming off a loss.

The hosts went on a blistering 3-0 start as if putting into naught the physical game brought by the visitors. Gilas managed to stretch it as wide as 6-2 but a couple of fouls thew them off balance and sent the game to a tie at 9-9.

Tsenguunbayar Gotov led the Mongolians with seven points. He drained three shots from deep. His final snipe sealed the deal win, improving their standing to 1-1.

The Filipinos drew six points from Stanley Pringle, four each from Troy Rosario and Roger Pogoy. Christian Standhardinger rounded out the production with three markers.

The Philippines dropped to a 1-1 win-loss card joining their tormentors and Russia. They face Canada and then Russia on Monday, Day 4 of the global contest.
