FDA orders review of energy drinks

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered a review of workout and energy drinks in the market following the 18-month suspension of basketball star Kiefer Ravena who was tested positive for three banned substances.

FDA director general Nela Charade Puno said this is a “perfect opportunity” for them to reexamine the content and labeling of the products.

“There will be a thorough review of these products to protect the health and fitness-conscious public,” Puno said.

Under the law, FDA is mandated to ensure the safety, efficacy, purity and quality of food products, medicines, cosmetics and medical devices manufactured and sold in the country.
