MANILA, Philippines — Reigning champion Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons put on another solid outing as Petron XCS thumped the Sta. Lucia pair of Jackie Estoquia and DM Demontano, 21-8, 21-11, to capture the Philippine Superliga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup crown at the Sands By the Bay in Mall of Asia yesterday.
Rondina and Pons played with so much chemistry and dominated their r.ivals with their superb plays from start to finish to secure the crown.
Earlier, Generika-Ayala A imposed its will early and trounced F2 Logistics, 21-7, 21-14, to cop third place.
Patty Orendain and Fiola Ceballos dominated Michelle Morente and Fritz Gallenero early on and sustained their attack to the finish to secure the win.
Orendain, who vied in the finals the last two years, vowed to work hard again next year in a bid to gain another crack at the championship.
“We’re happy with the win. Although, we didn’t make it to the finals, still, third place isn’t bad at all,” said Orendain.
Her partner, Ceballos, stressed that they moved into the bronze medal match without any pressure.
“We just enjoyed the game. No pressure,” she said. “It was our last game so we gave our all.”
Meanwhile, Foton duo Lemuel Arbasto and Kris Roy Guzman stunned erstwhile undefeated Sands by the Bay pair of Bryan Bagunas and James Natividad, 21-15, 21-15, to snare the men’s diadem.
