POC receives P46M donation from PBA, SMC and MVP groups
MANILA, Philippines – Philippine sports got a big boost when the league, its teams and two private bodies handed out financial help to bolster Filipino athletes' chances in upcoming international events.
The Philippine Olympic Committee was granted a total of P46 million to help in its preparation for the Southeast Asian, Asian and the Olympic games.

"I would like to thank with gratitude the PBA for their contribution and San Miguel Corporation and the MVP Sports Foundation," said POC president Ricky Vargas.
"These are all directed contribution towards athletes, towards National Sports Assocations for the program for Southeast Asia and Asian games. We are very thankful for all these contributions," he added.
"Gagawin namin, the council will take a look how best we can spend with the consultation with the donees," Vargas revealed. "Malapit na ang Asian games at saka kailangan ma-identify yung mga atleta at saka NSAs na pwede nating tulungan sa Southeast Asian Games."
Joining Vargas during announcement in the middle of the Ginebra-TNT game were POC chair Bambol Tolentino, secratary general Pato Gregorio, deputy secretary general Karen Caballero, commissioner Willie Marcial, team governors Dickie Bachmann, Alfrancis Chua, Rene Pardo, Robert Non, Ramoncito Fernandez, Al Panlilio and Bobby Rosales.
Marcial shared that this initiative has been in the governors' pipeline since a league planning held in Hong Kong.
"Para sa atleta, para sa bayan, para sa programa," Vargas closed.
