MANILA, Philippines — On the brink of another shot at the championship, Petron vows to write a different kind of ending this time as it shoots for a sweep of F2 Logistics and the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga crown at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan today.
“We already learned our lesson,” said Petron coach Shaq delos Santos, referring to the Blaze Spikers’ failed bid in this conference last year when they took the title series’ opener against the Cargo Movers, only to lose the next two games – and the championship.
“We promised ourselves that we will give our best until it’s over. We’re just glad that we were given another opportunity to be in this situation and win the title,” said Delos Santos.
Unlike last year, Petron has a gem of an import in Katherine Bell to lean on this time with the former University of Texas standout powering the Blaze Spikers to a stirring come-from-behind 23-25, 20-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-9 victory over the Cargo Movers in Game One late Tuesday.
A replacement to Hillary Hurley, Bell proved she’s worth more than the switch, erupting for 42 points that featured 36 attack points, including eight of the team’s last nine points in the deciding set.
