Cargo Movers mow down HD Spikers

Jeane Horton of Cignal foils a spike by Maria Perez of F2 Logistics in yesterday’s Superliga game at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

MANILA, Philippines — F2 Logistics pounced on Cignal’s poor service reception and came away with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-14 victory yesterday to stay at second in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Playmaker Kim Fajardo delivered five aces on top of 18 excellent sets as she combined with Venezuelan import Maria Jose Perez all throughout to fashion out the straight-set victory, the Cargo Movers’ fourth against a loss.

Perez, the reigning MVP, delivered 15 kills to finish with a game-high 16 points while fellow import Kennedy Bryan and local ace Aby Maraño backed them up with nine points apiece and a solid net defense that left Cignal’s prolific imports Jeane Horton of US and Sonja Milanovic struggling for form.

But for F2 Logistics head coach Arnold Laniog, it was their superb game from the service box that keyed their 68-minute romp.

“We identified Cignal’s weakness when it comes to first ball,” said Laniog, the St. Benilde mentor who is subbing in for La Salle head coach Ramil de Jesus.

“That’s why I told the team to come up with a solid performance from the service box. We targeted their open spikers like Rachel (Daquis) and Horton to take them out of their comfort zone. I’m glad that our game plan worked.”
