MANILA, Philippines — Ginebra wasn’t the only one featuring Kings in Game Four of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals on Thursday night.
Basketball royalties in Robert Jaworski Sr. and Ramon Fernandez descended on the Mall of Asia Arena when the Gin Kings played the San Miguel Beermen in a bid to level the series.
Jaworski and Fernandez sat on opposing ends of the VIP-courtside across the teams’ benches. The Ginebra legend, whose No. 7 was retired by the franchise, was in front of the four-peat seeking Beermen.
Fernandez mentored San Miguel and the league’s current Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo during the latter’s amateur years in Cebu. They are now tied — along with Alvin Patrimonio — as the most frequent recipients of the topmost league citation. They had four.

The two PBA icons hugged it out in the first half of the game after the venue announcer acknowledged their presence.
Fernandez and Jaworski turned rivals when they both assumed leadership roles in Gilbey’s Gin and Beer Hausen, respectively.
