Scorpions clip Falcons, reclaim PBA D-League lead
MANILA, Philippines — Centro Escolar U put up one big scoring run in the opening quarter and went on to crush Akari-Adamson, 76-57, and regain the lead in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao yesterday.
Congo’s Rod Ebondo dished out another huge game of 25 points and 18 rebounds while Joseph Manlangit backed him up with 13 markers and six boards as the Scorpions raced to an early 19-4 lead and never looked back.
The victory enabled CEU to switch places with Akari-AdU with the Scorpions moving ahead at 4-1 while dropping the Falcons to second at 4-2.
“It’s all about preparation. We worked hard to execute what we did in training so we were able to reap the results,” said CEU coach Yong Garcia.
The Falcons fought back to within, 34-40, at the onset of the third but Art Aquino completed a three-point play and the Scorpions posted another double-digit spread which they stretched to a commanding 20-point bulge, 62-42, with 43 seconds to go in the third.
Meanwhile, Che’Lu Bar and Grill-San Sebastian pounced on Mike Nzeusseu’s absence as it fashioned out a 97-88 victory over Zark’s Burgers-Lyceum to move to fourth at 5-3.
The Revellers built an early 31-10 lead as they took advantage of the Cameroonian big man’s absence to notch their third win in row. Nzeusseu sustained an ankle sprain in the Jawbreakers’ 85-91 loss to CEU last week.
It was Zark’s Burgers’ second straight loss, dropping the Jawbreakers to fifth at 4-3.
