Altas, Chiefs clash in men’s volley finals opener
MANILA, Philippines — Perpetual Help sets out for the first of two wins it needs to complete a rare sweep of the NCAA men’s volleyball crown as it faces Arellano University today in Game One of the finals at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Altas headed straight to the best-of-three championship with a sweep of the elims while the Chiefs had to beat the St. Benilde Blazers, 25-22, 28-26, 25-23, in the stepladder semis last Tuesday to gain a crack at the crown.
Joebert Almodiel, the Rookie MVP and first best outside spiker, is expected to lead the Las Piñas-based school’s charge again the way he did in the elims as the Altas look to snare their 11th championship.
Letran leads the league with 14 crowns.
