WATCH: Garvo Lanete on leading Meralco over Phoenix
MANILA, Philippines – Meralco's 92-90 escape from the clutches of Phoenix on Wednesday night couldn't be more timely for Garvo Lanete.
Turning 29 just the day before, Lanete threw a scoring party, notching double-digits in scoring to lead all Bolts and almost tying his career high of 27 points, which he also hung over Phoenix.
They 6-foot-2 cager who was drafted sixth overall by NLEX nearly three years ago, was also coming off a personal slump in the all-Filipino Conference. His best production was just 10 points in a losing effort against his former team.
He checked into that game against the FuelMasters as a starter with a lowly averages of 7.78 points a night and 1.56 dimes per outing. He ended the game with 24 markers to go with a board and an assist.
Lanete not only made up for a lackluster performances by Chris Newsome and KG Canaleta but also helped Meralco hang on in the Philippine Cup, where they have lost six of their nine matches and are sorely missing Jared Dillinger and Ranidel de Ocampo.
Philstar.com caught up with the third-year guard to ask about his performance:
