MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Alab Pilipinas drew strength from Renaldo Balkman and Justin Brownlee once again as it edged Mono Vampire of Thailand, 86-84, to move up to solo third spot in the ASEAN Basketball League at the Baliuag Star Arena in Baliuag, Bulacan Wednesday night.
Balkman pounded his way to 31 points and 13 rebounds and slowed down 7-5 giant Samuel Deguara while Brownlee had 16 points and 13 caroms to power the home team to a sixth straight victory and ninth overall against four defeats, which was good for No. 3.
Hong Kong Eastern and Chong Son Kung Fu lead the way with a win-loss record of 9-2 and 8-2, respectively.
Mono Vampire skidded to fourth with a 9-5 card.
With the game knotted at 84-all, Alab’s import duo took charge with Balkman connecting on a what turned out the game-winning layup off a set up by Brownlee.
Brownlee then swatted away an attempt by Mike Singletary to seal it.

Trailing by two, 75-77, after Mono Vampire’s Teerawat Chanthachon scored, Josh Urbiztondo capped a 9-2 exchange with a booming triple to give Alab an 85-79 edge.
Singletary then led a counter-offensive that saw Mono Vampire tie the count at 84-all, which proved to be their final stand as Balkman and Brownlee took over.
Alab hopes to continue its streak as it faces take on the CLS Knights at the GOR CLS in Kertajaya in Surabaya, Indonesia on Sunday.
