Lim clinches Davis Cup tie versus Indonesia

MANILA, Philippines — Francis Casey Alcantara and Jurence Mendoza delivered in the doubles while AJ Lim shone in reverse singles as the Philippines beat Indonesia, 3-1, in their Asia Oceania Zone Group II Davis Cup tie in Jakarta yesterday.

Alcantara and Mendoza turned back Justin Barki and David Susanto, 7-6 (5), 6-3, in the doubles to break a 1-1 standout following the countries’ split in the opening singles then Lim wore down Susanto over an hour later to clinch the tie for the Filipinos.

Lim also accounted for the first singles win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over M. Althaf Dhaifullah before Jeson Patrombon dropped a 2-6, 5-7 loss to Susanto in the second singles.

With Lim, 18, wrapping up the tie, the other reverse singles match pitting John Bryan Otico and Anthony Susanto, which was being played at press time, has been rendered non-bearing.
