Young Anton dominates Slalom Series
MANILA, Philippines — Inigo Anton capped a banner season by winning the Front Wheel Drive overall title, besting a host of seasoned rivals in the final round of the Slalom Series at the Robinson Star Mills Pampanga recently.
In his Mark Young-Mohspeed prepared Honda EF, the 13-year-old Castrol-Yokohama driver clocked 39.16 seconds around the tricky course to post his sixth Front Wheel Drive Best Time for the 2017 season.
He nipped 2015 champion Richard Gallardo, who timed 39.84 seconds, with 2016 titlist Jevoy Moreno of Jaf Racing Team finishing third in 40.07 seconds.
Anton thus became the youngest driver to capture both the Front Wheel Drive Overall title and the overall Novice crown in the 30-year history of Philippine Slalom. He claimed the Novice title last October even there were still legs left in the series.
“I can’t believe we actually did it. I thank the Lord and Mama Mary for keeping me safe in all the races. This is a dream come true,” said Inigo, whose early exploits showed the potential to follow the footsteps of his father Carlos, an eight-time Driver of the Year awardee.
