MANILA, Philippines — Olivarez College and TIP notched their third straight wins while PSBA and De Ocampo Memorial College carved out contrasting victories in the Sta. Lucia Land-NCRAA men’s basketball tournament at the TIP Big Court.
The Sea Lions trounced the New Era U side, 87-74, while the Engineers routed the Asian Institute of Maritime Studies cagers, 73-40, in the tournament sponsored by Sta. Lucia Land and outfitted by LGR.
DOMC, meanwhile, trounced University of Luzon, 95-82, to snap a two-game skid while PSBA edged St. Francis of Assisi College, 74-73.
The Sea Lions dominated the early going, hitting eight triples to post a huge 55-29 bulge at the turn. They padded their lead to 30, 67-37, en route to the lopsided victory.
Vinny Begaso scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half and finished with six rebounds and two shot blocks while Joshua Almajeda added nine markers for Olivarez.
The Engineers, on the other hand, held AIMS 5 scoreless in the first eight minutes while scoring the first 12 points and went on to fashion out the win while holding their rivals to league’s lowest output.
