MANILA, Philippines — The UAAP Cheerdance Competition is one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year.

Pep squads from the eight member universities take center stage for a day to deliver spectacular performances.

Before the 2017 edition tomorrow, here are some trivia you might not know about the 23-year-old competition.

UP Pep Squad is the most successful in the competition

Despite missing the competition for a year, UP Pep holds the record for the most number of podium finishes with 20.

UP is currently tied with the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe with the most first place finishes with eight

They ended up as bridesmaids six times and third place six times as well.

UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe holds the longest championship reign

UST established their CDC dominance when they accomplished an unprecedented five-peat from 2002-2006.

The only team close to matching that record is National University, which is gunning for its fifth straight crown.

UST also holds the highest score in history

As part of their dominance, the SDT also holds the highest point in the history of the competition with their win in 2006.

UST garnered 94.96 points that year to complete their five-peat.

The 2005 edition recorded the closest winning margin

UP Pep almost spoiled UST's bid for their fourth straight championship in 2005.

Salinggawi edged UP by a hairline after scoring 90.98. UP earned 90.76 points. That's just a 0.22 margin.

NU holds the record for the most convincing win

Speaking of spoilers, NU dashed UP's hopes of bagging a fourth straight championship when they dominated 2013.

NU’s Arabian inspired theme was so good that the school recorded the highest winning margin with 87.06 points. That's 9.54 points higher than second place UP's 77.52.

The 2015 edition is the most attended UAAP event

What's the formula of a record breaking audience record?

Eight schools, one day event.

The 2015 CDC at the SM Mall of Asia Arena recorded 25,388 paying audience.

It broke the record set by the men's basketball finals between the FEU Tamaraws and UST Growling Tigers with a crowd of 23,124.

Only four schools won the championship

To date, only four squads managed to take home the CDC title.

There's the old "big three" with FEU, UST and UP, then the emergence of NU.

La Salle came close to the crown with three runner-up finishes, the latest in 2013. Adamson, UE and Ateneo each had one second place finish.

Maybe these squads can finally enter the championship group?

Or maybe NU will continue their cheerdance domination?
