MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eaglets 13-Under defeated Assumption College of Thailand, 64-43, in the finals of the Dragon’s Cup at the Khwaeng Bang Na Gym in Bangkok, Thailand last weekend.
Ateneo’s Jeremy Gabriel Felix was named the Most Valuable Player in the five-school tournament that included Bangkok-based squads —Traill International School, Trimit School and Debsirin School in addition to Assumption College.
The Ateneo U-13 team swept the tournament, finishing with a 6-0 record. The Blue Eaglets were coached by Patrick Borjal and Ron Camara while the team was composed of Luis Gabriel De Leon, Justin Josiah Diaz, Jeremy Gabriel Felix, Carlo Javier Sanchez, Paolo Manuel Adevoso, Javier Alfonso Adevoso, Marshall Jordan Salandanan and Andrew Benjamin Tan.
“This is the first time an Ateneo team joined the Dragon’s Cup in Bangkok and it’s quite a feat that we won the championship game,” said Borjal.
“Jeremy Felix anchored our team throughout the tournament with all of his teammates making significant contributions. It was just the perfect combination of good shooting, defense, running, and rebounding. But it was the bonding that happened throughout the tournament that is what it is all about,” he added.
The Blue Eaglets represented the Philippines in the tournament as they were champions in their respective bracket in the Breakdown Basketball Invitationals.
