LiAngelo Ball faces possible jail time in China for shoplifting

MANILA, Philippines — LiAngelo Ball is making a noise for himself, although it is for the wrong reason.

The brother of Los Angeles Lakers top rookie Lonzo Ball is in danger of spending 10 years in a Chinese prison after being arrested for shoplifting Tuesday.

Authorities arrested Ball and his two other UCLA teammates for suspected shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store near their hotel outside Shanghai.

Under Chinese law, it is possible for the three to be detained for up to 37 days before local prosecutors decide whether they will press charges.

If convicted, Ball and fellow freshmen Cody Riley and Jalen Hill could spend three to 10 years in prison.

The UCLA Bruins are in China for their season-opening game against Georgia Tech on Saturday.
