Kia set to trade ‘first pick’ Standhardinger to SMB

Christian Standhardinger

MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Beer, already with a powerhouse cast led by PBA MVP awardees June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos, could become a lot more formidable with the possible addition of Fil-German center/forward Christian Standhardinger.

The 6-foot-8 Gilas pool member looks headed to joining Fajardo and Santos in the SMB camp as San Miguel and Kia have agreed on a trade deal involving the latter’s right for the top pick in the coming PBA Rookie Draft.

Standhardinger leads the cast of hopefuls in the 2017 draft slated Oct. 29 at Robinsons Place Manila.

The Kia-SMB trade proposal has been forwarded to PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa for his approval.

Curiously, Kia is trading its first pick for San Miguel third-stringers JayR Reyes, Rashawn McCarthy and Keith Agovida.

Not surprisingly, the other teams are starting to show their concern.

The issue is likely to be raised during the regular meeting of the PBA board of governors on Thursday.

NLEX owns the No. 2 pick, and coach Yeng Guiao said they’re using their draft rights on Kiefer Ravena.
