MANILA, Philippines — Making his debut Monday for new PBA D-League side Flying V Thunder is former GlobalPort and De La Salle cager, Philip “Papot” Paredes.
The 6-foot-5 slotman joins a side that is 4-0 and faces tough competition against Racal Motors today at the Ynares Center in Pasig City.
Said Flying V team manager Joey Guillermo, “We welcome the addition of Papot. As the tournament goes on, the competition gets tougher and he will only solidify our line-up.”
Thunder head coach Eric Altamirano concurred, “Papot adds ceiling to our line-up. Since we cannot line up Jondan Salvador because of the age rule of the D-League (Flying V already has Hans Thiele who is over the age 32), Papot will help us.”
Currently the Thunder slot in Thiele, JR Ongteco, Jan Colina, and Gab Banal at the four to five slots. Salvador, who suited up for College of St. Benilde in college as well as Purefoods, Air 21, Barako Bull, and Powerade in the PBA as well as Pacquiao Powervit Pilipinas in the ABL has been practicing with theFlying V Thunder of late and will be inserted in the line-up only if Thiele is unable to play due to injury.
“I am looking forward to helping this team,” said Paredes during team practice last Saturday at the Reyes Gym. “And hopefully, provide the presence they need underneath.”
