'Sugar' Mosley commends son despite loss

"Sugar" Shane Mosley

MANILA, Philippines — Boxing legend "Sugar" Shane Mosley commended his son Shane Jr. despite losing to local fighter David Toussaint via split decision Sunday at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.

The elder Mosley, who wasn't present at the fight, lauded his son for bringing his best game and "showing a lot of heart."

"Regardless of the loss, my son showed a lot of heart, power and a great chin. He was taught all the basics of boxing. Started late though," Shane Sr. tweeted shortly after the bout.

The 45-year-old Shane Sr. boasts a 49-1-10 win-draw-loss card, but lost to Russian David Avanesyan in his last fight in May 2016.

The fight was the first televised fight of the undercard of Manny Pacquiao's clash with Jeff Horn.

With the loss, Mosley fell to a 10-2 record while Toussaint stayed unscathed at 12-0. - Randell Angelo B. Ritumalta
