Acaylar to take UE men’s volley coaching reins
MANILA, Philippines — National men's volleyball team head coach Sammy Acaylar was named as chief tactician of the University of the East Red Warriors, replacing Ruel Pascual.
"Malaki tiwala nila sa akin. As a coach hindi naman ako pressured eh," Acaylar said after the Sta. Lucia Realtors' loss to the Cignal HD Spikers, 25-19, 18-15, 13-25, 25-23, 12-25, in the 2017 PSL All-Filipino Conference in Filoil Flying V Centre Thursday.
"Ang gusto ko lang ay tulungan sila mapasok sa podium finish."
Acaylar was part of the coaching staff in the 1993 Southeast Asian games, which marked the last time the men's national made a podium finish.
UE will be led by Edward Camposanom, Vince Magdaong, Roniey Advento and Sidny Molina.
"I don't like na isang tao lang ang pagaganahin sa UAAP," Acaylar shared. "Everybody should perform; Everybody should exert their effort so that maganda yung performance namin."
