Lady Warriors getting precious chance to improve with Cherrylume
MANILA, Philippines — After placing seventh in the 79th UAAP women's volleyball tournament, the University of the East Lady Warriors are using the offseason to bolster their squad come Season 80.
The young core of the UE Lady Warriors makes up the lineup of Cherrylume in the 2017 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference.
Only veterans Shaya Adorador, Roselle Baliton and Kath Arado are not in the roster as they are with the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers.
The Iron Lady Warriors took a beating against the Foton Tornadoes, 21-25, 16-25, 17-25, Tuesday at the FilOil Flying-V Centre in San Juan. But for UE head coach Francis Vicente, things are looking good for the young squad.
"Very happy (with their performance) kasi I see them improving individually, although hindi pa kayang magchallenge sa malalakas na team. Pero nakikita mo na umaangat (yung skills) eh," he said.
He said he is most satisfied with how the Iron Lady Warriors did not easily give up even with a huge deficit.
"Although it's three sets, at least hindi sila down nang sobra sobra. Kung sumobra man, hinahabol nila paakyat. It's a good game," Vicente said.
The decorated head coach said they expect that the team will have a hard time in the league, but what they are after is the experience they will gain from facing the top guns.
"Pag nag-improve naman sila hindi lang para sa akin. Kung may mag-alok sa kanila, why not? Kung sa akin sila maglaro eh di masarap," he closed.
