MANILA, Philippines - Surigao de Sur’s Allaney Doroy and Daniel Quizon stamped their class as they ruled their respective brackets in the National Age Group Chess Championships at Robinsons Galleria in Cebu City.
Doroy, gold medalist in last year’s Asian Youth Chess Championships, scored 9.5 points over 11 rounds to cop U18 girls crown while Quizon, a regular ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships gold medalist from Dasmariñas, Cavite, also topped the U14 boys division via sweep.
Settling for runner-up and third-place finishes in the premier tilt for boys and girls co-presented by Province of Cebu and Marty Pimentel and supported by Philippine Sports Commission were Laila Camel Nadera (8 points) of Cebu and Alexis Anne Osena (7.5) of Lipa, Batangas in the U18 girls (7.5), respectively.
In the U14 boys, Jave Mareck Peteros (8) of Cebu bagged the silver while Justine Diego Mordido (7.5), also of Dasmariñas, Cavite, took the bronze.
Meanwhile, John Miciano remained on top of the U20 boys, 1.5 points clear of his nearest pursuer while WFM Marie Antoinette San Diego shared the girls’ lead with Venice Vicente and Mira Mirano at 9.5 points.
