MANILA, Philippines - Fourth ranked Luis Tabasa flashed top form to rule the first Metropolitan Chess Club Young Knights Training Games at Kostka School in Katipunan Ave., Quezon City recently.
Tabasa, 16, went seven-of-seven to dominate the one-day tournament held exclusively for the first batch of the Milo Checkmate Summer Program being staged in various parts of NCR and in the provinces.
Tabasa took the top P1,500 purse and the first berth in the Quest for Excellence slated on May 13.
Allan Hilario, 10, placed second with six points while Matthew Wang scored 5.5 points for third.
Hilario, who also won the 12-under plum, also pocketed P1,500 and gained the first of the three slots for Malolos, Bulacan. Wang received P750 and took the second slot for NCR qualifiers in the MCC Quest for Excellence.
