La Salle strikes again, rules women’s football
MANILA, Philippines - La Salle put the finishing touches to a perfect campaign with a title-clinching 3-1 disposal of University of Santo Tomas Sunday night in the UAAP LXXIX women’s football finals at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
National mainstays Sara Castañeda and Inna Palacios struck late as the Lady Archers broke a 1-1 standoff en route to completing a 9-0 sweep of the tournament and copping DLSU’s ninth championship overall.
DLSU XI hit gold for the first time in seven years, pulling off the feat one day after DLSU scored a titular repeat in women’s volleyball. The DLSU lady booters also gained redemption from last year’s failure to close it out in the finals after winning all their previous fixtures.
“It’s about time. The girls deserve this considering that we’re not a complete team, healthy team. And with the injuries and everything there and coming out champions with a perfect season, what else can I say?” said DLSU coach Hans Smit.
