Doroy, Mordido pace Cebu chess

CEBU CITY , Philippines  – Asian Youth Chess Championships 2016 gold medalists WFM Allanney Jia Doroy and Kylen Joy Mordido banner the perfect scorers after five rounds in the ongoing National Age Group Chess Championships at Robinsons Galleria here.

Doroy, from Surigao del Sur, paces the  U-18 age bracket with 1.5 points while Dasmariñas, Cavite native Mordido is tied with Quennie May Samarita  of Gen. Trias,Cavite.

Keeping pace with them are perennial Asean Age Group champions Daniel Quizon (U14 boys) of Dasmariñas, Cavite and Michael Concio Jr. (U12 boys) of Los Baños, Laguna.

Campaigning in the U10 girls, Antonella Berthe Racasa, daughter of the country’s foremost exponent on memory enhancement –  Robert Racasa –  is a revelation in the tilt co-presented by Province of Cebu and Marty Pimentel and supported by Philippine Sports Commission.

She turned the table on Asian Youth gold medalist Darren de la Cruz en route to posting five points. 

Other five-pointers in the girls division were Regina Catherine Quinanola (U14) of Malabuyok, Cebu and Mecel Angela Gadut of Candon City and Jirah Floravie Cutiyog of Gen.Trias (U8 girls).

In the U8 boys, brothers Rusian and King Lanz Pamplona of Iloilo, Al-Basher Buto of Cainta, Rizal and Art Noblijas of Zamboanga notched identical five wins.

San Pedro, Laguna’s Jerick Marino (U16 boys) and Mandaluyong’s Cedric Kahlel Abris (U10) round out the roster of 100 percenters in the tourney also supported by DepEd, Cebu City and Cebu Sports Commission.
