Phl Youth Elite dumps Sto. Niño, retains crown
MANILA, Philippines - LeBron Nieto scored 17 points as the Phl Youth Elite clobbered St. Niño Catholic School, 91-54, and claimed the Youth Basketball Cup at the Diliman Preparatory School in Fairview, Quezon City.
The RP Youth Elite, coached by Mark Herrera, relied on a balanced offensive as they outclassed their opponents en route to a blazing victory, giving the select Phl juniors the boost for their upcoming tournament in Hong Kong.
Enzo King added 16 points, while team captain Ian Chua contributed 15, Nathan Victoria 14 and Joshua Edrozo and James Ganaotisi nine points apiece. JV Lumango had eight and Cassidy Dacanay three.
The Sto. Niño squad was led by Mike Cabilogan, who tossed in 16 markers.
“This is a great experience for the boys playing against taller and more experienced players, and certainly it gives them a big boost as we prepare for our first international tournament in Hong Kong,” said Herrera, whose wards annexed their second consecutive title.
