MANILA, Philippines - Even for a day, “heroes” gathered in support of a benefit race to raise funds for the Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc., the social development arm of TV5 which aims to help families during times of disaster and calamity.
Runners in the 16K run wore Supergirl capes, 10K participants showed off their Arrow-like hoods and those in the 5K side used their The Flash-inspired headgears, highlighting the TV5 “Superheroes Run: Manila” at the MOA grounds recently.
Some participants also stood out with their colorful attires, vibrant wigs, printed socks and something you don’t usually see in conventional runs – stunning pumps.
Participants from kids, teens to adults showed up in the early morning run that looked like a big heroes’ assembly, all geared up in their running wear, wristbands and their superhero attire.
Also in the mix were mini superheroes who joined the 200m dash. Some kids even showed up wearing full-blown Supergirl and The Flash costumes.
TV5 president and CEO Chot Reyes also took part in the event, hosted by Rizza Diaz while Sports5 head Patricia Bermudez led the group in prayer followed by warm-up exercises by Coach CJ from Takbo.ph.
Others who graced the event were TV5 stars Derek Ramsay, Alwyn Uytingco, Shaira Mae De la Cruz and Mark Neumann along with Superliga players Jov Gonzaga and Royse Tubino of RC Cola Army and Jeck Dionela of Cignal HD.
A total of 24 medals were awarded by Reyes, Ramsay and Lloyd Manaloto, Media5 head of marketing.
Proceeds of the event were turned over to the Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc., represented by its executive director Menchie Silvestre, who said that the donation will help families in need during calamities which made the runners, indeed, heroes for a day.
