Bakers step up semis drive vs Titans

MANILA, Philippines -  Cafe France stakes its four-game win run against AMA Online Education today, looking for another win and a boost to its semifinal bid in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

In joint second with the idle Racal Tile Masters at 5-1, the Bakers seek to formalize their entry to the playoffs and give themselves a chance for the coveted top two spots for an automatic entry to the Final Four.

Paul Desiderio, Michael Calisaan, and Rod Ebondo are expected to lead Café France’s charge again, raring to go coming off an 11-day break.

But the Titans, behind the Jeron Teng-Juami Tiongson tandem, are also out to get back on the winning track again in their 5 p.m. clash with the Bakers.

AMA is reeling from a shock 93-98 loss to Wangs Basketball last week to drop to 5-3.

“We lacked the energy and it’s definitely a learning experience for us. But we’ll be better for our next game,” said Teng.

The Titans need to hurdle their final eliminations assignment to clinch a quarterfinal seat. But a loss may drop them to Nos. 5 or 6.

Tanduay and Batangas, toting identical 3-4 slates, tangle at 3 p.m.

The Batangueños are hot on a trail of back-to-back victories, the most recent being their 92-68 rout of the Blustar Dragons last Tuesday, as they remained in the hunt for a playoff spot.
