Elorde brothers risk WBO belts tonight
MANILA, Philippines - The Elorde brothers stake their WBO crowns tonight in a promotion dubbed “Boxing Kontra Droga” at the Elorde Sports Center on Sucat Rd., Parañaque.
Grandsons of the great “Flash” Elorde, Juan Martin “Bai” Elorde will defend his WBO Oriental lightweight title against top contender Aekkawee Kaewmanee of Thailand while younger brother Juan Miguel “The Boss” Elorde will put his crown on the line against Erick Deztroyer of Jakata in the event presented by the Johnny Elorde Management International and held in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Manila Premier.
The Elorde brothers are rated Nos. 8 and 3, respectively, in the WBO rankings with victories to boost their chances for a possible world title fight. Bai Elorde holds a record of 21wins, including eight KOs, against a loss and a draw with Aekkawee toting a 16-win, including six KOs, seven-loss record.
Mig Elorde has 23 fights, with 22 wins (11 by KO) and one loss.
Erick, meanwhile, has eight wins against 4 losses and a draw.
In the supporting bout, champion Randy Braga and Landy Cris Leon clash in the Phl featherweight championship.
In other bouts, Japanese Kenta Ide will face Jerwin Mejes in an eight-rounder at 135 lbs.
The first fight starts at 5 p.m.
