FEU stays unbeaten, rips DLSU
MANILA, Philippines - Nicolas Ferrer scored a first-half header as Far Eastern University edged De La Salle University, 1-0, to remain unbeaten in the UAAP Season 79 men’s football tournament last night at the Moro Lorenzo Field.
Ferrer’s shot was made possible by a Paolo Bugas cross to put the Tamaraws ahead in the 34th minute.
With 12 points, FEU is three off league-leading Ateneo.
“I think the team is slowly accepting the change in the system,” said FEU coach Vince Santos, who took over from Kim Chul Su in the off-season. “We have a long season to go. We have to work on our finishing.”
Earlier, University of Santo Tomas dealt Adamson University a 3-0 beating to grab solo fourth with six points.
FEU has yet to concede a goal, thanks to another superb job by keeper Ray Joyel.
Dexter Benecio opened the scoring for the Growling Tigers, tapping the ball in the 32nd minute.
Jayson Rafol’s header gave UST its second goal in the 65th minute before substitute Marvin Bricenio sealed the deal with a turnaround shot 14 minutes later.
The Falcons, who failed to follow up last Sunday’s 1-0 shock win over the Green Archers, stayed at three points in sixth spot.
De La Salle, meanwhile, stumbled to its third straight loss and fell to fifth in the table with four points.
