Lady Eagles, Lady Spikers smother rivals for 4th wins

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo and La Salle beat their respective rivals in straight-set fashions to remain tied at second in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan yesterday.

Coach Tai Bundit returned after a two-game absence, steering Ateneo to a 25-14, 25-21, 25-21 romp over University of the East for its third straight win for a 4-1 card.

Jia Morado came up with 35 excellent sets, Michelle Morente fired 13 hits, including three service aces, on top of nine digs, Bea de Leon scored all but one of her 11 points from attacks, and Maddie Madayag had three blocks for a nine-point effort from blocks for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Spikers later matched the Lady Eagles’ record with a 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 win over Adamson U Lady Falcons.

The two arch rivals stayed within distance of UP, which is unbeaten in four starts.
