MANILA, Philippines - A crack squad composed of Filipino amateurs used its home course knowledge to the hilt to upend its Japanese rivals, 3-0, in the first quarter leg of the Philippines versus Japan dual meet held at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martirez, Cavite.
The local team, spearheaded by captain Arnel Romero, won all four matches (scramble, best ball, high low and greensome) last week, three on Wednesday and three yesterday to complete its dominance at the tough Jack Nicklaus-signature layout.
“We are happy to initiate this kind of tournament to foster camaraderie and create new friendships with our Japanese golfing community. We expect this grow bigger, in terms of participation, in the future,” Romero said.
The second quarter leg is tentatively set either in April or May also at Sherwood Hills.
