Ateneo seeks 3rd volley win versus AdU

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo takes on winless Adamson today, seeking a third win in four games for solo third even as Far Eastern U and University of the East clash in a duel of struggling teams in the UAAP women’s volleyball at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles are fancied to get past the Lady Falcons in their 4 p.m. encounter but assistant coach Sherwin Meneses remain wary of their rivals, who are going all-out to snap their skid and deliver the elusive win for new coach Air Padda.

After a challenging first three games, Ateneo is looking good so far in the post-Alyssa Valdez era, going 2-1 in a tie with defending champion De La Salle in second place.

University of the Philippines and National University, both undefeated in three starts, are currently tied in first place.

“We now have a balanced team. Everybody is contributing,” said Meneses.

Jia Morado is distributing the plays well for hitters Jho Maraguinot, Michelle Morente and Bea de Leon, Kim Gequillana, the hero of Ateneo’s narrow 25-19, 24-26, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11 win against the FEU Lady Tams, showed that she is ready to step up even as a substitute.

The Lady Tams, meanwhile, hope to get back to their winning ways as they clash with the Lady Warriors at 2 p.m.

FEU, with a 1-2 slate, is out to bounce back from a stinging setback to Ateneo but the Lady Tams must toughen up against Lady Warriors, who have been dishing out impressive games despite their 0-3 record.

In men’s play, titleholder Ateneo tries to extend its perfect run to four against Adamson in the featured 10 a.m. match, right after the FEU-UE tussle at 8 a.m.
