Perpetual Altas overwhelm Bombers
MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Perpetual Help overpowered Jose Rizal, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18, to gain a piece of the lead with St. Benilde in the 92nd NCAA men’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Brothers Rey Taneo Jr. and Relan starred for the Altas, who nailed a seventh win against a loss for a share of the top spot with the Blazers, a win near sealing the important twice-to-beat incentive in the next round.
Rey led all hitters with 11 hits while the elder Relan dished out a match-best 37 sets.
Perpetual Help mentor Sammy Acaylar, the current national men’s team coach, said it’s all about desire.
“It’s a matter of wanting to win because we can achieve anything if we show will power,” said Acaylar.
The Bombers closed out their campaign with a 1-8 mark.
