Top breeders chase fame in World Cup
MANILA, Philippines - Magno Lim, the 2016 World Slasher Cup II champ, banners a formidable cast of Filipino and international cockers and gamefowl breeders competing in the 2017 World Slasher Cup nine-cock invitational derby that unwraps tomorrow at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Lim, with his teammate Gary Tesorero, is again fielding his MLG 63 bets against a tough field including cockers and aficionados from the United States, Kuwait, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan.
Entries from Blueblade Farms AA and Phoenix II of Mario Villamor, Ed Aparri and Art de Castro are among the leading local teams in the 10-day event organized by Pintakasi of Champions and sponsored by Petron, Thunderbird and B-Meg with partners like the Excellence, the EDL Group of Companies and Pit Games Media Inc.
Darrel Mack, Mike Formosa and Ray Alexander are among the famed participants from the United States. There will be other American entries from California, Washington, Hawaii and Guam.
Cockfighters from Vietnam and Cambodia who attended the three-day World Gamefowl Expo at the World Trace Center have also expressed intention to be at the World Slasher Cup that will be running up to Feb. 1.
The competitions begin with the two-cock eliminations on Jan. 23-25, followed by the three-cock semifinals on Jan. 26-29 then the four-cock pre-finals on Jan. 29-31.
Entries with a score of 3.5 or 4.0 points compete in the four-cock pre-finals while undefeated entries with a score of 4.5 or 5.0 points earn the chance to be named this year’s World Slasher Cup champ at the grand finals on Feb. 1.
