Torres eyes 3rd to gain podium finish
MANILA, Philippines - Bemedalled triathlete Monica Torres gears up for the Thailand Tri-League Series at the Bangsaen Beach, Chonburi, Thailand on Feb. 19, seeking no less than third place to secure a podium finish in the four-leg circuit.
Torres turned in a pair of fourth place efforts in Bangsaen in February and in Pattaya in May and wound up third in Sattahip in December last year.
“I am running third in the points race. Hopefully, I could secure a podium finish,” said Torres during yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate.
Disputing the top two spots are pacesetting Australia’s Dimity-Lee Duke and Renee Baker.
Torres is also bracing for a tough outing in the Powerman Asia Duathlon Championships set March 5 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
The top Filipina triathlete also hopes to improve on her third place finish in her previous duathlon outing in the Maybank Powerman Philippines World Series last December.
Others who graced the forum were Federation of Touch Football Pilipinas president Clair Barberis and marketing officer Bianca Arco, who promoted the Manila 10s International Rugby tournament slated March 25-26 at the San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite.
The event is expected to draw 36 local and international club teams, with the Manila Nomads and Alabang Eagles leading the local challenge.
A touch invitational will also be held alongside the competition for the women’s, juniors and U-18 boys and girls.
