MANILA, Philippines - Bert Lozada Swim School (BLSS), the country’s pioneer swim school, has expanded its swimming program to include triathlon training with BLSS chief executive officer Anthony Lozada as its project manager and head coach.

Lozada recently obtained an International Triathlon Union (ITU) Level-2 Certification Course at Makuhari Seminar House in Chiba, Japan, making him one of only a few professional triathlon trainers in the country.

Lozada, a national junior triathlon coach of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), said BLSS has included triathlon in its program because of the growing popularity of the sport and also to contribute in developing talented triathletes for the national team.

The updated ITU Level 2 coaching course is an intense five-day swim-bike-run course which includes modules on sports science, training/racing program planning, sports physiology and psychology, training theory and practical sessions.

The course was conducted by the world’s top ITU coaches – Sergio Santos of Portugal, Andreu Alfonso of Spain, and Tony Jolly of the United Kingdom. Eighteen candidates were selected from among 38 applicants from 10 Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) member countries with diverse coaching backgrounds.
