Ty Tang takes over at Benilde

MANILA, Philippines - St. Benilde officially appointed former pro Tyrone Tang as its new senior basketball coach with hopes of turning the Blazers’ fortunes around following a forgettable campaign in the last NCAA season.

Tang, 32, has won championships with La Salle in the UAAP in 2007 and Rain Or Shine in the PBA in 2012.

The Blazers have failed to make the Final Four in the last four years with former mentor Gabby Velasco, winning just one game in the recent campaign.

Velasco’s best finish as coach in four years came three years ago when they finished fifth with an 11-7 (win-loss) record.

He also compiled a 22-50 slate at St. Benilde, which finished 10th and last this season with a woeful 1-17 mark.
