MANILA, Philippines – Joel Banal, the former cage star and champion coach, recently conducted a coaching workshop in Cebu in a program aimed at training not the players but the trainers.

Dubbed the “Coach To Coach, Coast To Coast,” the workshop impressed the participants where Banal lectured on theories and shared personal anecdotes plus the most fundamental drills.

“Now that I am retired from coaching, I can reveal all my secrets, strategies and experiences to coaches around the nation, from coast to coast,” said Banal, one of a couple of coaches who won championships in all major leagues in the country, including the NCAA, UAAP, PBL, MBA and PBA.

“In a way we are using the process of multiplication,” added Banal of the clinic, which is held in partnership with Mighty Sports Apparel.

His experiences as a coach, not to mention as a player in all levels of major basketball competitions locally and internationally, gives him the distinct advantage in conducting the workshop for coaches.

Brother PBA coach Koy Banal, also a multi-titled coach, graced the workshop held in coordination with Brando Velasquez and coach Tata Merced along with the Cebu provincial government.

“The idea is that, hopefully, the benefits from the workshop may be passed on to a wider number of aspiring players in the province,” said Velasquez.
