MANILA, Philippines – Team Philippines racked up 21 medals, finishing sixth overall in a field of 45 in the fifth Asian Beach Games in Da Nang, Vietnam recently.
Margarita Ochoa and Annie Ramirez stood at the front of the Filipinos’ charge as they won a gold medal each in ju-jitsu with Gian Taylor Dee bagging a silver medal.
The pencak silat squad of Princesslyn Enopia, Jaciren Abad and Jefferson Rhey Loon also produced four silver medals with Filipino athletes in beach athletics (particularly long jump and triple jump), ju-jitsu, kurash (a mode of folk wrestling), muay in several weight classes, pencak silat, beach sepak takraw (or kick volleyball) and beach wrestling accounted for the other 17 bronze medals.
The weeklong competition covered more than a hundred events in 22 sports with the Philippines besting 37 other Asian countries with fourth overall ranking.
The Team Philippines’ campaign was backed by SM Men, through senior vice president Jeffrey Lo, who tapped its premier sports label, Bo Athletics, to design and produce the team’s official uniforms for the competition.
Bo Athletics, a high-performance sportswear line available in all SM Men branches, designed three key uniforms for the Asian Beach Games team: a two-piece tracksuit, a T-shirt and Polo shirt and shorts set for both men and women members of the team.
