Tams hold off Archers, pace Martin cagefest
MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U, San Beda-Taytay and Rich Golden Shower Montessori Center pulled off victories in similar fashions to boost their respective bids in the 14th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at San Beda gym in Mendiola last Sunday.
The Tams drew 24 points from Rendell Senining and 18 markers from Hubert Cani as they subdued the La Salle Archers, 99-97, for a 5-1 card in Group B of seniors division.
La Salle fell to 1-5.
The Red Cubs, on the other hand, banked on a split free throw from Christian Samaniego to nip the College of San Benildo-Rizal Blazing Wolves, 71-69, for a 3-2 slate in Group B in juniors play.
Aries Galicia, meanwhile, hit 19 points as the RGSMC Spartans repulsed the Letran Squires, 60-55, and notched their fourth win in Group A, also in the juniors division.
In the other juniors result, the FEU Baby Tamaraws, meanwhile, blasted the Arellano U Braves, 90-74.
In other seniors games, San Beda-A drew 25 points from Eugene Toba as it downed University of Perpetual Help-Molino, 77-62, while San Beda-B won over Diliman College, 84-76.
Centro Escolar University-A, led by Judel Fuentes with 24 points, prevailed over La Salle, 80-71, while University of the Philippines demolished Jose Rizal University-B, 83-58.
