Floyd Sr. nixes rematch between son and Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Sr. would advise his son against fighting Manny Pacquiao again, saying there’s no point in doing so.

In an interview with On The Ropes Boxing, the elder Mayweather said he didn’t like what he heard from Pacquiao – particularly his injury – after the Filipino icon lost to Floyd Jr. in boxing’s richest fight.

“If I was my son, I wouldn’t even give him another fight because he said lies about how my son won the fight,” said Floyd Sr.

“Talking about his arm, something wrong with arm, weren’t nothing wrong with his arm. Floyd clearly beat him, everybody saw that and everybody knows that,” he continued.

The Mayweather-Pacquiao bout in May 2015 was such a huge commercial success that a rematch financially makes sense for both fighters.

Pacquiao is fighting again on November 5, challenging WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas, and has repeatedly expressed his desire for a rematch with Mayweather.

Mayweather, meanwhile, has stayed retired for now and does not seem inclined to lace it up anytime soon.

There’s no point for a Mayweather-Pacquiao 2, according to Floyd Sr., as the result would likely be the same.

“If they fight again, his [Pacquiao’s] arm gonna be hurt again, OK,” said the elder Mayweather, referring to Pacquiao’s right shoulder which he injured while training for Floyd Jr. – Dino Maragay
