MANILA, Philippines -- Italian coach Fabio Menta stepped down as head mentor of the Foton Tornadoes, barely two months since taking over the position.
Menta took the reins from former head coach Vilet Ponce-de Leon after Foton's second place finish in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference in July
In his official statement posted on his Facebook page Monday, Menta said he filed his resignation via Viber on the afternoon of September 24. He said the team accepted his resignation through e-mail by midnight.
"I wish the Club... the coaching staff and each and everyone of the extraordinary girls I had the pleasure to coach, perhaps too briefly to have a real impact on their game, the best of luck and a lot of success," Menta's statement read.
The FIVB-certified coach denied reports that he was fired because of internal conflict.
"(The) players and I were working hard on improving. Imports were focused and all was okay," Menta told Philstar.com
Menta steered Foton Pilipinas to a seventh place finish in the recently concluded Asian Women's Club Championship in Biñan, Laguna.
