Phoenix seeks solo D-L lead vs AMA
MANILA, Philippines – Phoenix shoots for its third straight win – and the solo lead – as it faces struggling AMA Online even as Blustar Detergent makes its debut against Tanduay in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the JCSGO gym in Cubao today.
Despite tangling with a winless rival, Phoenix coach Eric Gonzales still stressed the need for consistency following the Accelerators’ sloppy start against the unfancied Topstar ZC Mindanao where they allowed the Aguilas to score the first 11 points of the contest.
But the Accelerators regrouped just as quickly and went on to pound out a 108-78 victory last Thursday to tie the Café France Bakers at 2-0.
Phoenix could make it three in a row with a win over the Mark Herrera-mentored, importless Titans in their 2 p.m. encounter.
“We need to be consistent in every possession,” said Gonzales, who is expected to bank again on the likes of Mac Belo, Ed Daquioag and Mike Tolomia.
Blustar, meanwhile, takes on Tanduay in the 4 p.m. main game with the Dragons, led by coach Goh Cheng Huat and Juami Tiongson, parading a Malaysian core hoping to make an impact in the league.
The Rhum Masters, on the other hand, hope to bounce back from?their 79-98 defeat to the Accelerators last Tuesday.
